  • Paul Walker believed to be the passenger in the car which spun out of control and hit a pole and tree
  • The 40-year-old starred in five of the six films about illegal street racing and heists
  • Walker was the father of a daughter, Meadow, 15, who recently moved to California to be closer to him

  • Actor Paul Walker, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious action movies, has died in a car crash after his friend lost control of a Porsche GT which smashed into a pole and a tree.
The high-powered super-car burst into flames after it crashed in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, at 3:30pm, yesterday.
Walker, 40, who was in five of the six films about illegal street racing and heists, had been at an event for his charity Reach Out Worldwide before deciding to take the car out for a drive with his friend.
The fundraiser, to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan, was taking place in a race car shop near to the scene of the crash.
Guests rushed to put out the flames with fire extinguishers but the fireball had already engulfed the car.
The star's representatives and official Facebook page confirmed his death.
The LA County Sheriff's department said two people died but is yet to release names.
However Ame Van Iden, Walker's publicist, said in an email: 'Sadly, I must confirm that Paul did pass away this afternoon in a car accident.'
The actor's official Facebook page was also updated with the message: 'It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organisation Reach Out Worldwide.
'He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives.
'We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.
'Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW.'
Walker, who leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter, was an investor in the Always Evolving car shop in Valencia, California.

  • While at the event, Walker and a friend decided to take the Porsche GT out for a spin.
Witnesses at the crash scene posted a video of the scene on YouTube showing debris from the wreckage while emergency workers cordoned off the area.
Photographs also show a burnt out shell of a car.
Friends of the star told a local newspaper they 'went through fire extinguishers' in a futile bid to fight the blaze that engulfed the car after the crash.
Antonio Holmes told the Santa Clarita Signal: 'We all ran around and jumped in cars and grabbed fire extinguishers and immediately went to the vehicle. It was engulfed in flames. There was nothing.
'They were trapped. Employees, friends of the shop. We tried. We tried.'

Police Helicopter Crashes Into Glasgow (UK) Pub Roof - Watch Video

A police helicopter has crashed into a pub roof on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow.

The aircraft struck The Clutha in Stockwell Street which was packed with drinkers at the time.
One image of the crash on social media sites showed the dark blue helicopter on the roof with yellow "Police" insignia on part of the wreckage.
Emergency services were unable to confirm if there were any injuries, but there are reports that people may be trapped in the venue, where a local band were playing on Friday evening.
The Police Roll of Honour Trust tweeted "Our thoughts are with the crew of @policescotland SP99 helicopter that has crashed in Glasgow - hoping everyone is alright."
Labour's international development spokesman Jim Murphy, who was among those helping the wounded out of the pub, tweeted: "Terrible here in Glasgow Helicopter crashed into roof of pub".
He told Sky News: "I just saw dozens and dozens of people coming out of the pub. It is a horrible, horrible scene.

"The helicopter is currently embedded in the roof of the pub and the emergency services are doing their very, very best to get the people who are still inside the pub, and probably those who were in the helicopter, to safety."
Mr Murphy said people formed a human chain to help pass unconscious people out of the pub so that "inch by inch, we could get the people out".
He said: "I think the building's only about 18ft, 20ft, tall so part of the helicopter is sticking out, but most of the helicopter is in the building."
Wesley Shearer, who posted pictures on Twitter of the scene, said there had been "talk of fatalities", but this has not been confirmed.
"This is unbelievable," he tweeted shortly after the crash. "Just spent 20 minutes pulling people out of the bar."
Jan Hollands, who also tweeted pictures from the scene, said she heard the crash and described it as "scary".
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said there were 15 fire engines at the scene along with specialist services.
Gordon Smart, editor of the Sun's Scottish edition, told Sky News: "I was in a car park and looked up and saw a helicopter which I think was a police helicopter.
"It was just such a surreal moment. It looked like it was dropping from a great height at a great speed. I'm about 80% sure that it was a police helicopter.
"There was no fireball and I did not hear an explosion. It fell like a stone. The engine seemed to be spluttering."
Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "My thoughts are with everyone affected by the helicopter crash in Glasgow - and the emergency services working tonight."
First Minister Alex Salmond said: "The emergency services are in full operation. Our thoughts are with everyone involved. Scottish resilience operation now mobilised."

PORT ELIZABETH: Pakistan recorded a sensational one-run victory and also a maiden series win against South Africa in the second One-day International here at the St George’s Park on Wednesday.

South Africa who were going well on the way to victory and needed only eleven runs from twelve balls to level the series were astonishingly restricted by left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal who gave away just nine runs dismissing two experienced batsmen – Hashim Amla and Jean-Paul Duminy - to snatch the win from the jaws of defeat.

Doctor Injects 6-Year-Old Girl with HIV to Fight Cancer

Doctors cure six-year-old's terminal cancer by injecting her with HIV

PIONEERING doctors have successfully treated a terminally ill six-year-old’s cancer by injecting her with HIV.

The new procedure helped Emma Whitehead despite her being in the last stages of leukemia.
And amazingly she celebrated 18 months free from cancer on november 10 this year.
It was a long shot but doctors at the University of Pennsylvania were amazed at how little Emma improved.
Dr Stephen Grupp said in a Focus Forward interview: “This is a child who had her leukemia come back twice. The parents were looking for a miracle.”

The doctors trained her immune system to recognize and kill tumour cells. She was then infected with the HIV virus to help target the unhealthy cells.
The engineered virus cannot spread disease but retains the ability to reprogramme other cells. Each infused “serial killer cells” can kill 1000 different tumour cells.
Dr Grupp continued: The reality is that dramatic responses of cancer to new treatments are very unusual. We need to make it clear when we talk to the family that it may not work.”
When Emma was injected with the virus she became very sick, struggling with her breathing and blood pressure.
But a few days later, the doctors saw a sudden improvement in her condition and her fever lifted.
Dr Carl June said: “It was like the calm after the storm. The clouds went away and she woke up and there was no leukemia. It was, of course, an amazing event.”
She and her family now travel to Washngton DC in an attempt to urge legislators to fund the pioneerng research.

The letter signed by PTI information secretary Shireen Mazari asked Hangu police to name CIA director John Brennan and a man they identified as the agency’s Islamabad station chief as suspects for murder and "waging war against Pakistan".
